Cwm Taf Morgannwg Safeguarding Board and the NSPCC Win Safeguarding Category at the Wales Safer Community Awards

The Cwm Taf Morgannwg Safeguarding Board in partnership with the NSPCC, has been honoured as the overall winner at the Wales Safer Community Awards held on Thursday, 27th November in the category of Safeguarding for its ‘Chwarae Dy Ran / Play Your Part’ campaign.

This multi-agency campaign was developed following recommendations from a regional Child Practice Review with the shared aim of providing resources, support and advice for parents and carers, local communities, children and young people and professionals to help raise awareness of how to protect children and report safeguarding concerns.

The campaign was delivered through a range of mediums including community workshops, “Listen Up, Speak Up” sessions, information resources and partnership with education to support the “It’s Not Love” play within local schools and a Talk PANTs Week.

The judging panel commended the joint work between the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Safeguarding Board and the NSPCC for its innovative approaches, strong cross-agency collaboration, and clear impact on improving safety and wellbeing within local communities. Their continued efforts to raise awareness, strengthen professional practice, and support early intervention were highlighted as examples of sector-leading, effective safeguarding.

Speaking on behalf of the Board, Lisa Curtis- Jones, the Chair of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Safeguarding Board, said:

“We are delighted to receive this award, which reflects the dedication, professionalism, and compassion shown by all of our partners across the region. Effective safeguarding relies on strong collaboration between partners and local communities, and this recognition demonstrates what can be achieved when organisations and communities work together with a shared commitment to protecting the most vulnerable.  We are proud of the progress made and remain determined to build on this work in the months and years ahead.”

The Wales Safer Community Awards bring together organisations from local government, emergency services, the third sector, and community groups to acknowledge achievements that make Wales safer and more resilient.

This award marks a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Safeguarding Board and the NSPCC, highlighting their shared vision of creating safer environments for all.

Success at the Wales Safer Communities Awards 2025

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is proud to be recognised at the Wales Safer Communities Awards for its outstanding contribution to community safety in the Safeguarding category. This award celebrates the dedication and collaborative effort that has made a real difference to individuals, families, and communities across Wales as part of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Safeguarding Board’s Immediate Response Protocol.

Our collaboration as part of this initiative was highly commended for its outstanding multi agency approach in response to a Road Traffic collision which saw three young men lose their lives and the wider community needing significant support. By working in partnership with South Wales Police, Cwm Taf Morgannwg Safeguarding Board, 2Wish Cymru and Eye to Eye trauma response team, we have delivered support to the immediate families and over 300 others affected by the tragedy. This project has truly seen collaboration at its best and helped identify those people who were vulnerable at the most difficult of times.

This recognition highlights the importance of Partnership, support and effective communication in tackling complex challenges that grief and loss may bring.

We are committed to continuing this work and sharing learning to help create safer, stronger communities across Wales- together we are stronger and our families deserve us to be the best we can be.

Donna Morgan, Bereavement Clinical Lead at CTMUHB, said:

"We are truly honoured to be recognised in this category and to receive this award. It reflects the hard work and passion of everyone involved and reinforces our belief that collaboration is key to making a lasting impact. Our thoughts remain with anyone affected by this incident and as always our commitment to our families remains at the heart of all that we do."
