10 October is World Mental Health Day, a chance to raise awareness of mental health, challenge stigma, and encourage people to talk openly about how they are feeling.
This year's theme,"Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change", reminds us that listening can make a real difference. When people feel heard, understood, and supported, it can help reduce feelings of isolation and encourage them to seek help when they need it.
Good mental health is an important part of our overall wellbeing, but many people experience challenges at different times in their lives. Whether you are concerned about your own mental health or worried about someone else, reaching out and having a conversation can be an important first step.
As a Safeguarding Board, we recognise the connection between mental health, wellbeing and safeguarding. Mental health difficulties can affect anyone, and supportive communities play a vital role in helping people feel safe, valued and connected.
This World Mental Health Day, take time to check in with a friend, family member, colleague or neighbour. Sometimes simply listening without judgement can make all the difference.
