A Thematic Analysis of Child Practice Reviews in Wales from 2018-2023

New Report Highlights the Importance of Hearing the Child’s Voice in  Safeguarding

This new national report explores learning from 24 Child Practice Reviews carried out across Wales between 2018 and 2023. Focusing on children's lived experiences, the report examines how well safeguarding systems understand, capture and act upon the voices, wishes and feelings of children who have experienced serious harm.

The findings highlight the need for a more child-centred approach to safeguarding, ensuring that children's experiences are not only heard but are central to decision-making, multi-agency practice and learning. The report also identifies key opportunities to strengthen advocacy, family engagement and professional practice across Wales.
