Tackling Hate Crime Conference - Summary

Becca Rosenthal from Victim Support has kindly shared some of the main headlines from the Tackling Hate Crime Conference held in November 2024.

Hate Crime continues to be a topic affecting many of our services and it is hoped that the attached will be of interest and useful to you and your organisation.

The Wales Safer Communities Network's Social Justice and Community Impact – Seminar Series 2025, commences this month. As many of you will know the Supreme Court ruling on the 16 April, looked to define female for the purposes of the Equality Act.
Guidance is anticipated to be published quicker than normal to assist organisations and individuals navigate any uncertainty. But the importance is recognised that consultation on the guidance still takes place, but likely at an accelerated pace.
WG and Police forces have confirmed that they are not looking to change any practices or polices until full guidance is in place.

Hate crime is still hate crime, and kindness and compassion to the Trans community is imperative, especially at this likely uncertain and challenging time.

Police representatives are keen to ensure the message is heard that- legislation has not changed and communities are still protected, nothing has changed in respect of the way hate crime is recorded or dealt with.
